Job Opportunity: Community Volunteer Coordinator

Over the summer we are working on engaging the public in the upcoming BC referendum on proportional representation.

Community Volunteer Coordinators will be responsible for recruiting and training teams of leaders who can help us reach people across BC. They will coordinate volunteer training and recruitment, support volunteer teams to do outreach, recruitment and planning and carrying out events. 

We welcome and value the contributions that individuals who identify as members of marginalized communities bring to our organization, and encourage Indigenous people, people of colour, women, people identifying as LGBTQI, members of ethnic minorities, immigrants and people with disabilities to apply.

Tasks include:
  • Lead a community outreach program in your community by tabling at local community farmers markets, attending local events, and phone banking.
  • Design and run presentations for volunteer meetings. 
  • Identify and recruit volunteers to join local teams. 
  • Support local volunteer team leads in supporting their local community teams. 
  • Grow volunteer teams by planning, coordinating and running community events that engage the wider community.
  • Build leadership within your community by planning and implementing leadership and skills trainings.
  • Maintain meticulous data tracking in our database so that we can effectively communicate and manage volunteers.

Applicants must: 
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Desired Qualifications:
  • A demonstrated passion for improving democracy, citizen engagement and holding governments accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (some evenings and weekends)
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, and ready to take initiative in identifying gaps and finding and implementing solutions, involving other team members as needed.
  • Well organized and comfortable working with online technologies such as Google docs, Skype, Facebook, shared calendars, etc.
  • Previous experience with field organizing, political organizing, managing volunteers or event planning is an asset
  • Experience training others and fostering leadership is an asset
  • Access to a vehicle and ability for some local travel is an asset

Training and Support:
  • You will be trained in using the internal tech systems and best practices Leadnow uses for managing volunteers
  • Your work will be supported by full-time staff 
  • You will be able to work out of our Vancouver office, or remotely from Victoria
