Coronavirus (COVID-19) is making people sick, forcing businesses to close and putting people’s jobs at risk.^[1][2]

The federal and provincial governments have announced billions of dollars in aid packages to help workers and people who are unwell or unemployed because of COVID-19 — but there's still no plan for people who are at risk of losing their home, or having their heat, water or phone shut off.^[3]

While the Prime Minister said there are more measures to come, we know that some renters are already facing evictions and could be kicked out of their homes any day now. This is why we need a huge petition to make sure no one loses their home or has their utilities shut off during a pandemic.^[4]

Update: The banks previously announced they’d allow homeowners to defer their mortgages, but we’ve since heard that the process is really confusing and banks are still charging interest on deferred payments. That’s why we’re calling for all rent and mortgage payments (including interest) to be suspended during COVID-19.
