UPDATE: After a flood of calls from Leadnow members and Progress Toronto activists last week, the PCs were forced to delay the vote on their brazen attack on Toronto city council until tomorrow (Tuesday, August 14). Our pressure is working, but the PCs are trying to ram the bill through a vote -- we only have 24 hours to stop them.

Right now, we’ve got people flooding the phone lines of their local conservative MPPs. If you don’t live in a conservative riding, the most powerful thing you can do right now is call the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Steve Clark. 

If an unprecedented number of us make phone calls to Minister Clark right now, it could make him buckle under pressure because he knows his legacy is on the line. Will you call Municipal Affairs Minister Clark and demand he puts a stop to this reckless bill?

• Hi,  my name is __, and I'm calling to demand that Minister Clark do what’s in his power to stop the bill to slash Toronto city council in half (Bill 5)

• It is a clear abuse of power. Trying to ram a bill into law to slash a city council, without warning or public consultation, in the middle of Toronto’s municipal elections, is undemocratic and reckless. 

• A new poll shows that the majority of Torontonians want this legislation scrapped entirely or postponed until after the Toronto elections, so there can be broad consultation.

• Minister Clark promised to consult the public on major urban decisions and run a Ministry that’s accessible to the people. I wasn't consulted, and neither was anyone else. 

• Ramming this legislation through without consultation or fair process breaks his promise and makes people lose trust in democracy. The people won't forget it.
