Stop bullying wounded and injured veterans

Last week, Trudeau government decided to take Canadian veterans to court to try to block benefits for injured and wounded soldiers — despite a Liberal campaign promise to better support them after an era of Harper cuts.

It’s a shocking and disappointing move that veterans lawyers are calling a “betrayal” and “slap in the face” to veterans.

During the election, Trudeau spoke out against Harper’s treatment of our vets, making an explicit promise to re-establish lifelong pensions, and stating:

“We have a social covenant with all veterans and their families that we must meet with both respect and gratitude… We will ensure that no veteran has to fight the government for the support and compensation they have earned.”

Now, the Liberals are singing a very different — and ugly — tune. Rather than living up to their real change promises, Trudeau’s government is bullying wounded war veterans out of just compensation, claiming it has no “extraordinary obligation” to those who have fought for Canada — and they’re going to court to try to prove it.

Servicewomen and men shouldn’t be sent overseas and then left in the lurch at home.

If enough of us speak out now, we can convince the new government to drop the case and deliver the benefits they promised.
