RBC is worsening the cost-of-living crisis. With some of the highest mortgage rates in the country, RBC is already driving up housing costs – and things could be about to get even worse. If the government approves RBC’s attempted takeover of HSBC Canada, it would make life less affordable for everyone.^1,2

Losing HSBC as a competitor will drive up the already devastatingly high cost of home mortgages and rents for millions of people. Less competition will lead to even higher consumer banking and credit card fees, and it will inevitably have knock-on effects on the housing market – and cost-of-living as a whole.⁴

We need to stand up to the consolidation of corporate power. RBC needs approval from Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland to buy HSBC Canada, and if we get loud, we can make sure she stops this takeover from happening.
